NGS is proud to announce that alumni Carter Tait was selected as a linesman for the 2023-24 OHL Officiating team

Carter began his referee career with NGS in 2013-2014.  He was selected as NGS’ most promising official of 2013-2014 and was also awarded NGS’ Ref of the Year award the following season.  His dedication on the ice continued to win him accolades, and he was selected as the 2017-2018 District 2 Junior Referee of the year.

Carter’s reffing career is ongoing, and he officiated for NGS right up until 2019 when he moved to North Bay to attend University.  He currently refs at the OHL, NOJHL, OUA and minor hockey levels.

Carter’s favorite moment as a referee with NGS was when he officiated his sister Camden’s game, while his dad, Steve Tait, was coaching her team.  He recalls that "it was cool to get to "share" the ice with all 3 of them".  His mother, Vicky, remembers that game fondly as well, saying "His sister earned a penalty from him in that one!".

Carter was also an NGS player.  His most memorable moment as NGS player was when his Bantam Rep team won a tournament in Chambly, QC in 2015. Their gold medal game went into a shootout and Carter was able to score the game winner!

Carter is currently attending his first year of teacher’s college at Nipissing, with the end goal of becoming a Phys Ed and Biology teacher. He hopes to continue to officiate at both the junior and minor levels once school is finished.

NGS wishes Carter continued success in all his future endeavors!
