The NGS Midget 2 House Braves were 10-0-2 when they lost for the first time in regular-season play on January 7.
The Braves are the only team in the LSLMHL that defeated the first place team, the South Stormont Selects, in the regular season not only once but twice.
With a record of 18-3-3 they finished second in the midget division in the regular season.
The Braves played the Alexandria Glens in their barn for Game 1. They came out on top and won 4-3.
Back in Maxville for Game 2 they met up with NGS 1 and defeated them by a score of 6-1.
Moving to Finch for Game 3 vs the Cornwall Colts 1 the Braves won 10-4.
Having only 9 players left (because of suspensions) the Braves had to win Game 4 to get a spot in the championship. They took care of business and won 8-4 vs the Cornwall Colts 2 in Maxville.
Championship vs Char-Lan Rebels
Back in Finch for Game 1 the Braves defeated the Rebels by a score of 5-1. Mathieu Girard had four points with a pair of goals and assists while Brigham Hill, Ryan MacMaster and Ethan Bourgeois completed the scoring for the Braves.
Moving to Wiliamstown for Game 2 on March 24 the Braves got one player back from suspension, Kyler Giroux, but lost their goalie and alternate captain, Dawson Robertson, to an injury that happened earlier on that day.
The Braves coaching staff had no choice but to put a player between the pipes with no prior experience in net. The goalie for this important game was affiliate Derryk Gauthier.
The Braves defense crew Michael Reid, Ethan Askes Connor Elliott and Jacob Gauthier knew what was expected of them and played an outstanding game.
The Rebels opened the score late in the first, but Girard scored for the Braves in the first play of the second on a breakaway to even things up 1-1.
With only 5 minutes left in the third, Hill passed to Giroux who took a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle and scored a power-play goal. With time running out for the Rebels, they removed their goalie with two minutes left in the third. The Braves scored three goals in 48 seconds, from Bourgoies, Watkins and Giroux, filling the empty net. The Rebels scored in a lost cause with 57 seconds left but the damage was already done. The final score was 5-2 for the Braves. This is the second year in a row the NGS Braves won the Midget LSLMHL Championship.
